My Journey – Part 5

The next several years of this, life of mine got to be routine. I was finally getting some of my senses back and for that I was grateful. I guess it was because of my age, 25 at the time of stroke, about 27, maybe 28 at this point in my life, and I suppose things were looking a little better.

I also need to explain something now as it will pertain to my life-experiences. When I was a little boy I was blessed with a great set of Grandparents… to me and my baby sister they weren’t Grandma and Grandpa… they were Nana & Papa. Now my Papa was an older person; I believe he was around 54 or 55 years old when I was born. He had what is known as Glaucoma. Back in the day Dr.’s didn’t treat it like they do today. When he first started getting it he worked in a lumber mill in Ukiah, CA, and worked around machinery that made a lot of noise all of his 12 hour workdays. This eye ailment gives a person really bad headaches. And, he thought he was getting his headaches from the sawmill; but, he was getting them from the Glaucoma. Long story short, he went prematurely blind at an early age. He could see a LITTLE bit, but he was legally blind.

I spent a lot of time at their house because my mother had to work and there was nobody to watch me. He was a Christian man and they lived around two blocks from the First Christian Church, so, every Sunday he and I would walk the couple of blocks to church and I went to what’s called Sunday School. This was my first introduction to Jesus. After several years of this my Papas eyesight got worse and he could no longer see well enough go to church; so, that ended my early years of going to church.

The reason I tell you all this is because I felt I was lucky to even be alive at this point, and, that the reason I didn’t just flat-out die is because God didn’t let me die; He had other things in mind for me. So, I started going back to church again, (after many years of not going). So, once I could get around and “sort-of” communicate I started going back to church.

Well, that enough for now… I’m not feeling so hot today, so, until my next post…
